PCOS or PMOS?
You may still hear the term “PCOS” (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), though an international consensus effort in 2026 proposed renaming the condition “PMOS” (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). The change reflects growing recognition that the condition is not primarily about ovarian cysts, but rather a complex hormonal and metabolic disorder involving insulin resistance, androgen excess, inflammation, ovulatory dysfunction, and broader metabolic health. Regardless of terminology, treatment focuses on addressing the underlying hormonal and metabolic drivers.
